New World Spirits films is a film production company from Krumpendorf in Carinthia that I am part of myself. For it I built a site that runs without WordPress and without a database, yet can still be edited in the browser.
Starting point
The old site ran on WordPress, with demo pages from the theme, a blog and testimonials. Its sitemap listed 97 addresses. The site had to present the company’s films and 23 festival awards (1998 to 2017).
Solution
The new site follows the idea of an expedition, with coordinates, data bars, routes and the motto “We film where the atlas ends.” Behind it runs PHP without a database, with the content stored as JSON files. Instead of WordPress there is a custom editing area: films are maintained side by side in German, English and Spanish and sorted by drag and drop, and every save is backed up. The site sets no cookies and loads nothing from third-party servers when it opens, Vimeo films only after a click. In all, 96 old addresses redirect to their new destinations. The site has been online since October 2026.
